Located in Takayama, the Kusakabe Folk Museum used to be the home of the Kusakabe family who were prosperous merchants during the Edo period.

The original building was destroyed in a fire in 1879 but was perfectly reconstructed by a skilled artisan called Jisuke Kawajiri.

The house has been designated a National Important Cultural Treasure and currently houses a collection of folk art which can be viewed by the public.
