Located in Oman’s A'Sharqiyah Sands, also known as the Wahiba Sands, Bidiyah is a gateway to one of the Middle East’s most extraordinary desert landscapes. The sweeping sand dunes, ranging from golden to reddish hues, cover 10,000 square kilometres and provide a habitat for diverse plant life and endemic wildlife. The region is celebrated for its camel and Arabian horse races, which attract spectators from across the region. Bidiyah offers adventure activities such as dune bashing, sandboarding, and guided treks into the desert. Al-Muntarib Fortress is a 13th-century structure, once home to judges and governors before and after Oman’s renaissance, now serving as a prominent tourist attraction. Nearby, Al-Dhahir village is renowned for its Al-Dhahir Falaj, an ancient irrigation marvel reaching 108 metres in depth. Constructed by Sheikh Jum'a bin Said Al-Mughairy, the falaj supplies abundant water for agriculture. Nearby oases, including the picturesque Hawiyah and shaded Eidan, contrast the arid desert with their lush greenery. Visitor amenities include traditional camps and local cuisine, including shuwa and saffron-flavoured machboos. Stargazing under Bidiyah’s pristine skies adds a serene end to adventurous days.
