Iliniza Norte (5126m/16817ft) is considered one of the symbolic mountains to ensure an excellent acclimatization. Even though the route doesn’t represent a high technical level, it will give us a good experience walking on loose rock and sand. Prehistorically, they were one volcano, but today the two peaks are separated by a saddle of about 1km and less than one mile in width. Both peaks offer some of the more enjoyable climbing in Ecuador and in South America. For the experienced hiker or soft climber, the North peak is a truly fun climb with some heart-stopping scrambles thrown in.
The hike will start at 4,000m though Polylepis trees and typical vegetation from the Ecuadorian highlands. It will take about 5 hours to reach the summit, where you can enjoy the view, the company, and the experience. Then we will start descending to the vehicles and return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
