Norman Carr Safaris operates four bush camps situated in remote areas of the South Luangwa National Park. Each of the Bushcamps are designed to be very different in style with different habitats so that the ideal is to combine the camps, perhaps walking from one camp to another. You leave early in the morning and arriving at the next camp for brunch to find your bags already waiting for you. Walking safaris from camp are not strenuous and are conducted at a pace determined by our guests but usually last 3 to 4 hours. They are led by a fully qualified guide and armed game scout.

Mchenja is a seasonal camp on the banks of the Luangwa River. Five walk-in safari tents nestle under a grove of ancient ebony trees and overlook the river. There is a main area under thatch, which houses the bar and lounge, although most meals are enjoyed under the canopy of the magnificent trees outside. The game activities of the camp are a combination of 4x4 game drives and bush walking. Usually you begin with a night or two at Kapani lodge before being driven into the more remote areas of the park. The transfer time from Kapani is 1½ hours but it's usually offered as a more leisurely game drive. This is the most luxurious of all the bushcamps and so is ideal as the end of a walking safari if you are combining more than one bushcamp.
