The breathtaking Meiringspoort is surrounded by mountains that have created a fascinating micro-climate in which indigenous fynbos plant species thrive. Adding to this beautiful natural scene are numerous brilliant blue malachite kingfishers and black eagles that have made the skies above the gorge their home. The road that meanders through Meiringspoort crosses the Groot River 25 times in 25 kilometres, and each of these crossings is marked by a colourful history. Visitors can learn more at the information site near a spectacular 60-metre-high waterfall.
