Located just 80 kilometres from Tasmania’s capital of Hobart, the Mt. Field National Park is one of the island’s standout natural reserves. Its centrepiece attraction is the outstanding sight of Russell Falls, a spectacular series of waterfalls in a verdant rainforest setting. The park is also home to a number of impressive walks and trails, including the Lake Dobson Circuit and the Tall Trees Walk, which traverses a forest of swamp gums (some of Australia’s tallest trees). Mt. Field National Park offers some excellent camping opportunities and is home to diverse flora and fauna, while - in winter - the area becomes a popular hub for cold-weather sports, offering some of Tasmania’s best downhill skiing and snowboarding runs, as well as cross-country trails through the Park’s higher, flatter regions.
