The best way to take in the breathtaking Tasmanian Wilderness along the Gordon River is aboard a river cruise. Highlights along the route include Hells Gates – the narrow opening that separates the ocean from Macquarie Harbour; Heritage Landing, where you are able to walk in the lush forest; and Sarah Island, a historical convict settlement. The lower part of the river is a protected World Heritage area, rich with cold-climate rainforest and indigenous trees. If you visit during summer, consider taking in the views from above via a seaplane flight.
