Situated only 45 minutes from Quito in the Pichincha Province, behind the Pichincha Volcano, the magnificent Yanacocha Reserve is a paradise of exotic flowers and birds. Encompassing 1200 hectares of striking jungle-covered outcrops, offering spectacular views of the active volcano and beautiful coast, and decorated by alluring hiking routes, the park offers a world of adventure activities. However, it is the area’s phenomenal wildlife that provides its primary drawcard. The black-chested Puffleg Hummingbird is an endangered species with less than 300 birds left on earth, who makes a home here along with around 121 other brightly-coloured bird species. Other animals living here include the Andean Spectacled Bear, shy Puma, and more. Giant plants and exquisite orchids add to the scene.
