Rangers awaken the lodge at 05h00 (wake up time dependant on time of year) to greet the new dawn. Enjoy coffee and rusks on the veranda before departing on a game drive, in search of the ‘Big Five’.
The following is a typical game sighting as told by the ranger:
“One morning just at dawn, we headed south for our game drive. For about half an hour the radio was quiet and no fresh tracks of animals were discovered. Suddenly, the tracker Samson stops me and says "Nkonzo, Hlambi Inyati" - Shangaan for "tracks for herd of buffalo". I stopped the vehicle to determine the direction of the tracks. Within thirty seconds the tracker tells us south – so south we went. While concentrating on the Buffalo tracks, the tracker and I realized that there were female & male Lion tracks on top of the Buffalo’s’ – which could only mean one thing: the Lions were following the herd hoping to find a weakling amongst them to kill for food. So still following the tracks, a White Rhino mother with her 2-month-old male calf greeted us.
Spending some time with them was great, because they were on an open grassland plain & the calf, being so young, was not skittish at all. In fact he even came as close as 2 meters (6ft) from our vehicle to inspect what we were. After he realized that we were the two-legged creatures in a machine, he lost interest & he went to suckle on his mother to quench his baby thirst. “
This is just one of the many sightings you may be able to enjoy on a game drive in the African bush.
After the morning game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, join a guided bush walk with the expert rangers where they will teach basic bushcraft and point out many of the fascinating aspects of the habits of wildlife. “Walk single file behind the ranger and feel the pulse of Africa through the soles of your feet!!! “
Upon the return to the lodge a mouth-watering lunch will be served. This will be followed by some time at leisure to enjoy a refreshing swim or relax on the patio before joining the fellow travellers for afternoon tea and coffee after which they will depart on an exciting evening game drive in open safari vehicles with professional rangers and trackers.
The vehicles will stop individually in the bush to watch the sun set and to enjoy a sundowner. The game drive continues in the open vehicles with powerful spotlights, to seek out the nocturnal species.
Return to the camp for dinner.
