Situated south of the core town of Goslar in the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony, Weltkulturerbe Rammelsberg is a historic site where ore deposits were mined almost uninterrupted for more than 1000 years. For this extraordinary achievement, the mine became Germany's first UNESCO World Heritage Site of technology. The museum displays various exhibits pertaining to the mineralogy, the geology and the history of the area, including impressive monuments to mining spanning over nine centuries. Other highlights include a mine train riding through the Richt Shaft, where visitors can admire modern mining machinery. A tour through the 800-year old Rathstiefste Gallery concludes with a hearty miner's meal underground. Visitors can enjoy a bite to eat and a drink at the on-site restaurant.
