Located in the northern part of Chiang Rai Province in Thailand, Mae Chan is a town built on hills, surrounded by lush tropical trees. The town serves as a trading post where various hill tribes sell, buy and trade goods as well as manufactured items. Travelers can buy silver and other handcrafted items at the local shops in the town. Visitors can view the Doi Nang Non mountain which is in the shape of a sleeping woman with long hair. There are a number of caves and streams in these limestone mountains which are popular tourist attractions. Travelers can visit the Hill Tribe Development and Welfare Centre which promotes hill tribe handicrafts. There is a retail outlet at the center that sells hill tribe clothes, jewelry, and children's products. The proceeds go towards aiding the hill tribes to develop and grow.
