The active volcano, Mount Batur is located in the small village of Batur, in the Kintamani District which is comprised of three main Balinese villages situated around Batur Lake. The volcano’s first recorded eruption was in the year 1804 and most recently in 2000, the hiking trails leading up to the ridges are highly popular as one can enjoy captivating panoramic views of the Batur caldera and the sunrise during treks in the early mornings. The 3 to 4-hour long trail also leads down to the lake shore where one can delight in exploring the cluster of hot springs and the Ulun Danu Batur temple.
