Gunung Kawi is an ancient Hindu temple complex located at the bottom of the lush river valley in the scenic Pejeng Region, northeast of Ubud. It is mandatory for visitors to don a traditional Balinese attire of a sarong and sash before entering the historic 11th-century temple grounds via a steep stone stairway leading to the main courtyard and 10 magnificent shrines carved into the cliff face. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views during walks through the aged terraced rice fields and explore the many relics and artworks from the Udayana dynasty housed within the temple.
