The Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Belém, commonly designated as Jerónimos Monastery because it was destined to the Order of St. Jerome is a masterpiece of Portuguese architecture. It was classified as a National Monument in 1907 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983.
