Table Mountain’s scenic ascent via Skeleton Gorge begins at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. It’s a favourite, and great for exploring the gardens themselves before setting off to the top of Table Mountain more than a kilometre above. The up route involves a good scramble and takes about five hours, with a short and exhilarating section where you’ll be using ladders and chains. Adds adrenaline – if you’re wary of heights, give this one a miss! It’s a strenuous hike well worth the effort for the views over the city as the climb progresses.
