Paarl Rock (otherwise called Pearl Mountain) is an enormous granite rock formed by three rounded protrusions overlooking the Paarl district. The slopes of this distinctive geological feature are home to the Taal Monument, a captivating architectural structure that pays tribute to the Afrikaans language. Paarl Rock is also a popular rock climbing site, with several routes traversing its dangerously steep, smooth slopes and offering spectacular views over the peninsula. Though bolts have been embedded in the rock face to aid climbers with the ascent, these routes are considered advanced and should be attempted by experienced climbers only.
