Hugging the southern shores of Lake Tanganyika in Zambia’s Northern Province, the remote Nsumbu National Park is famous for its stunning natural scenery and its wide variety of wildlife. The park boasts lush hilly grassland and escarpments interrupted by rivers and wetlands, and runs a vast 80 kilometres along the river, spreading out wider from there. Game drives provide the opportunity to see crocodiles, hippopotamuses, elephant, lion, leopard, and many more animals, and rich birdlife of over 300 species inhabits the area. Walking safaris and excursions into the lush Kampasa Forest, which holds important religious significance for the local people, offer further exploration and include scenic boat rides along the lake. A guided walk meanders along a beach and small stream to a secluded, forested waterfall. Lake Tanganyika, with its abundance of fish species, is an excellent spot for anglers.
