Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park is the oldest game reserve in Africa proclaimed in 1895, covers some 96 000 ha of hilly topography and is known for its rich wildlife and conservation efforts. Larger mammals to be seen include buffalo, blue wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, elephant, and large numbers of impala, waterbuck, common and mountain reedbuck, nyala, kudu, bushbuck, steenbuck, duiker, warthog, black rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyaena and jackal. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded. This park is one of the few parks in KwaZulu-Natal where all the “Big Five” can be found and is famous for its healthy rhino population. The 4-hour open-vehicle Game Drive is led by experienced and passionate field guides, who are experts in getting you up close to memorable wildlife sightings.
