Set in the rural area of Manaus, in Igarapé São João, the Museu do Seringal Vila Paraíso occupies what was once the grounds of a rubber-baron estate. The museum was inaugurated in 2002, after it was originally installed and used as a location for the filming of the feature film “A Selva”, by Portuguese director Leonel Vieira. In return for the support given by the Amazonas State Government to the production of the film, the set was donated to the Department of Culture, which transformed it into the museum visitors see today. The property includes a historic townhouse, a replica rubber-tapper shack and smokehouse, and a leafy trail showing how rubber trees are tapped.
