On the western edge of Kruger National Park and north of Sabi Sands Game Reserve is the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. It lies within the Greater Kruger National Park open system, and is known for its high wildlife density, including the rare and intriguing white lion, which is endemic to the reserve. Over 350 species of bird have also been recorded here.
