With the abundance and preservation of unique and diverse species of flora and fauna, you can see why this region is in the top 10 bio-diversity hotspots in the world and the only hotspot in Australia.
The only pure tuart forest in the world stands in the north of Your Margaret River Region, whilst the karri, the third tallest tree species in the world, stands in the south. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, the boundless beauty and diversity of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park envelops the region on the western edge. The premium wine region and agricultural land give way to woodlands, jarrah and marri forests on the east.
Scenic spots are plentiful and range from stunning seascapes to tranquil forest valleys. Contemplate the enormity of Sugarloaf Rock, Cape Naturaliste – a gigantic towering granite rock that emerges from the Indian Ocean from the lookout on the mainland.
It is easy to be amazed and it is easy to experience it all as there are fantastic lookouts, walk trails, cycle paths and mountain bike trails with easy access
Where the Indian Ocean Meet the Southern Ocean
The beautiful sleepy coastal town of Augusta sits along banks of the Blackwood River and the sweeping pristine waters of Flinders Bay to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.
Lighthouse Tours run daily and offer a unique experience of going inside and up to the top of a working lighthouse. Enjoy breathtaking views across the treacherous oceans and the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. Learn about the history and listen to stories of unimaginable tragedy and rescue.
The first brewery established in the region coined a phrase, ‘An oasis of beer in a desert of wine’.
Nearly 20 years ago that brewery was a lone trailblazer and now with nine breweries in Your Margaret River Region, craft beer is a real player in the Margaret River region
Each brewery has its own distinctive style from traditional pale ales and pilsners to preservative and additive free brews. By contrast chocolate beers, ginger and chilli beer will give your tastebuds something new to think about. Brave inventive styles are introduced regularly and frequent the daily tasting list. Some also produce their own cider, there’s even a distillery.

The Margaret River Region is as spectacular underneath the ground as it is on top. Over 150 highly decorated limestone caves lay beneath the surface of the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge.
Formed approximately 1 million years ago, a number of these complex and fragile karst systems are open to the public. Go inside and be amazed by these massive labyrinths decorated intricately with limestone crystal formations.
Cave tours range from completely easy ‘at your own pace’ self-guided tours, guided tours along boardwalks with great commentary, ‘off piste’ adventure hard-hat tours to extremely adventurous ‘abseil your way in’ expeditions.
It is difficult to choose the best cave tour in the Margaret River Region. You can marvel at the reflections on Lake Cave’s permanent lake, be dwarfed in Jewel Cave’s enormous chambers and take it easy on the Mammoth Cave self- guided tour. At Yallingup’s Ngilgi Cave (pronounced ‘nilgi‘), you will learn the Aboriginal legend as you look up at limestone shawl formations– or delve deeper into the cave on an adventure tour.
The Cape Lodge restaurant features seasonal local and homegrown produce plucked from nearby oceans, local farms and the kitchen garden, to create fresh innovative cuisine. The wine list is extensive and features both back vintages from Margaret River’s wine estates as well as other Australian and international wine regions. Dine in the lakeside restaurant, or for something a little more casual enjoy a seasonal Harvest Produce Platter in the comfort of the Guest Lounge or the privacy of a suite.
