Santo Amaro da Purificação is located in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The area was developed for sugarcane production and as a result, there are several historic mansions of former sugarcane barons. Prior to the arrival of the Portuguese, the region was home to Carijós, Caeté and Pitiguaras peoples. Other important historical buildings include a municipal palace, the Parish Church of Our Lady of Purification, the Town Hall and Prison amongst others. Natural attractions include nearby beaches, the grotto of Bom Jesus dos Pobres and the Falls of Vitória.
