After an invigorating 50-minute uphill hike, reach the top to witness the city, coastline, and surrounding rainforest from a spectacular vantage point. Gain a unique perspective of the majestic Pedra da Gávea (842m / 2762ft), renowned as the world’s largest monolith close to the ocean and often called Rio’s ‘table mountain.’ The views encompass the West coast, including the lagoons and mangroves of the Barra area, stretching to the iconic beaches of Ipanema and Leblon and the striking Dois Irmãos Peaks. The trail winds through Tijuca Rainforest, a vast urban forest within the National Park – over 40 km² located right in the heart of Rio. Along the ascent, keep an eye out for potential wildlife sightings like toucans, coatis, and monkeys. Throughout the tour, delve into the rich history of Rio and Tijuca Forest, learning about the former coffee plantations, the significant 19th-century reforestation efforts, and the fascinating flora and tropical rainforest ecosystem. The experience also includes a visit to another celebrated viewpoint within Tijuca Park: the Chinese View summit.
