Sprawling across 430 square kilometres of Madagascar’s southwestern coast, Tsimanampetsotsa Reserve is an intriguing wilderness of spiny forests, caves, and wetlands clustered around sparkling Lake Tsimanampetsotsa. The best way to appreciate the park’s beauty and prolific birdlife is by exploring its various hiking trails, which lead through baobab forests, along the lakeshore, and to the sacred Mitoho Grotto. According to local legend, the grotto is a magical space inhabited by invisible people, as well as its visible residents - the blind fish that inhabit its waters and the swallows that make the cavern roof their home.
