Located in Yellowknife, Canada, Great Slave Lake is the deepest lake in North America at 614 metres deep and the second largest lake in Northwest Canada with a surface area of 27200 square kilometres. Gold was discovered in part of the lake in the 1930s which lead to the founding of Yellowknife which is now the capital of the Northwest Territories. The lake is drained by the McKenzie River, and its east arm is filled with islands. Boasting some of the best trout, fishing is the most popular activity on the lake.
