The Douro River is the third largest river in the Iberian Peninsula flowing 575 miles from its source in Spain, passing through fabulous scenery to the Atlantic Ocean at Porto. Two cities, Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto, are divided by the river and a number of impressive bridges span its high banks. The view of the old city of Porto, across the river, is quite spectacular. The climate along the Douro River is ideal for the production of Port.
