Also known as Lago Cami, Lago Fagnano is a spectacularly scenic lake on the main island of the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago, an island territory of Argentina and Chile, at the southernmost tip of South America. The lake is typically reached from the city of Rio Grande, crossing the steppes and the mountains on the well-paved National Route 3 before continuing on to the southernmost city in the world, the bustling port town of Ushuaia. As one of the largest lakes in the world, the glacial-formed Lago Fagnano features an impressive 117 km of beaches, with most of its shoreline remote and roadless. Several boat tours are available on the lake, and numerous hiking trails lead up to the surrounding mountains. Other popular activities include mountain biking, horseriding, wildlife watching and fishing.
