Being the only living geothermal Maori village, they are gifted with geothermal vents that are used to steam and cook the food whereas others use heated rocks in a dug out pit.

Join one of the hourly departing Guided tours as you learn of the history, traditions and guiding legacy that has been handed down through generations, View landscapes of bubbling hot pools and steaming vents as the guides take you on on journey sharing their own experiences of growing up amongst this spectacular landscape. Spend some time sitting back at one of our two lookouts to the world famous Pohutu Geyser as it erupts sending sprays of hot water into the sky.
Then join in with audience participation as our local cultural performers entertain you with song and dance pertaining to our people.

No experience would be complete with out tasting the foods that have been cooked in the hot pools and steam vents located throughout the village. Our Geothermal Hangi Meal consists of beef, chicken, potato & kumara (sweet potato), bread stuffing, sweet corn cob, carrots & carrots, served with a dessert of steamed spudding, custard, cream and fruit salad, finishing your meal off with self serve Tea, coffee and water.
