A picturesque place in Banff National Park, Johnson Lake is a great family getaway complete with a convenient parking lot and picnic areas. It is also ideal for hikers, with a fine trail that opens during the summer season. Here visitors can explore the forests of the lower Bow Valley and marshy wetlands where waterfowl and muskrat can be spotted. Hiking around the lake counterclockwise gives explorers continuous views of Cascade Mountain along the northern shore.
There are three access points to Johnson Lake, and the area also has a number of attractions and amenities for visitor comfort. These include restrooms and showers, camping areas with electrical links, picnic tables, grills, a swimming beach and fishing piers. The lake also offers boating and skiing opportunities in season.
