Nederburg's story begins more than two centuries ago in 1791 with Philippus Wolvaart, who was marked by a singular passion that served to created a legacy of wine excellence. With few resources and little in the way of infrastructure he established a flourishing winery that has evolved into one of South Africa's most significant wine brands with an internationally award-winning reputation.
Nederburg's cellar-master Razvan Macici, one of South Africa's most awarded winemakers, explains that the passion he shares with his team, is a blend of precision, intuition and an unwavering belief in their task. "We want our wines to be both technically accomplished and an absolute pleasure to drink."
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Drakenstein Mountains, Nederburg's 1800 manor house stands as the testimony to the hopes and aspirations of Wolvaart. Now a national monument, it is the centre piece of the farm, one of South Africa's most popular wine destinations for domestic and international wine tourists.

Cheese and wine pairing at the Nederburg Visitors’ Centre
For a delicious alternative to the regular wine tasting, indulge in Nederburg’s Which wine, Which cheese experience that pairs top-ranking goat cheeses with Nederburg’s elegant Manor House and Ingenuity ranges of wines.
With so many flavours, textures and varieties of cheese available, the ideal matching can be quite a challenge. Contrary to popular belief, white wines often complement cheese better than red wines but when artfully combined, you can show both white and red wines to best effect with the right cheese. We’ll show you how simple and what fun it is selecting the perfect wine to balance the flavour, sweetness, softness and texture of the cheese.
Single (four cheeses paired with four wines from our top ranges) and double (eight cheeses paired with four wines from our top ranges) servings are on offer at between R45 and R60.
Please note that all cheeses are made from goats’ milk.
The Nederburg Manor House
Beautifully gabled and finely proportioned, Nederburg’s manor house, completed in 1800, has become an icon in the Cape winelands. To enter the peaceful tranquility of the thatched-roofed, white-washed, H-shaped Nederburg manor house is to experience a distillation of life lived over 200 years ago.
The Red Table restaurant
Nederburg presents the restaurant, The Red Table, situated in its iconic manor house, a national monument. It has been passionately created in collaboration with well-known Cape Town foodie, Andrea Foulkes, and offers locally-sourced, fresh food in a comfortable and historic atmosphere.
The accent is on tasty, simple but superb eating with flavours to match the award-winning range of Nederburg wines. Signature favourites include the venison burger, sirloin steak and pork belly.
During the summer months, the restaurant spills out onto the terrace and sprawling gardens against the backdrop of vineyards and the towering Drakenstein mountains. In the fragrant and lush gardens surrounding the manor house, you'll find leisurely spots in the cool shade of the age-old trees you can enjoy fare created to complement Nederburg’s delicious wines.
With fireplaces ablaze during the winter months, the plush and comfortable interior of the manor house is the perfect setting for leisurely meals shared with family and friends when chilly outside.
