The Cango Caves is a cultural and natural landmark located at the foothills of the Swartberg range near Oudtshoorn. These intricate tunnels of limestone are one of the most popular tourist attractions in South Africa. The Cango Caves offers an Adventure Tour lead by experienced and accredited cave guides. This tour is not recommended for claustrophobic or unfit guests.
The Adventure Tour includes the basic heritage tour which explores the great halls of the caves, then Adventure guests set off with a separate guide deeper into the caves. The Adventure Tour includes the 200 steps of Jacobs Ladder, the 85-metre long Lumbago Alley, whose roof seldom rises above 1.2 metres and the Crystal Palace which features a translucent crystal wall. The Tunnel of Love invites guests to crawl through a low passageway some 74 centimetres high, narrowing at one point to about 30 centimetres before reaching the Devils Post Box which is 27 centimetres high and involves some shimmying and sliding to get through. This is the furthest part of the route and guests return to the main caves via King Solomons Mines.
