Ganvie is a village built on Lake Nokoue located in Benin and was created centuries ago by the Tofinu people who took to the lake to avoid being enslaved by Fon warriors. The entire village is built on wooden stilts several feet above the water and the only way to access it is by boat. The people rely on fishing and tourism for their income. Ganvie offers various accommodation facilities, shops and restaurants where visitors can enjoy delicious fresh fish and rice.
