Obrajes is a district in the bustling Bolivian capital of La Paz, resting at almost 4000 metres above sea level and surrounded by mountain peaks. Just a short drive north of Obrajes is La Paz city centre, with its myriad eateries and shopping venues. Particularly interesting is the Witches Market, with its array of herbs, potions and medicinal remedies, while the Coca Museum provides an in-depth look at this infamous plant. A trip on the Mi Teleferico cable car offers superb views over the city. To the south, the nearby neighbourhood of Calacoto is home to the intriguing Jach’a Phasa archaeological site - a collection of enigmatic stone towers enclosed by a wall. Slightly further afield is the Valle del Luna, covered with fascinating sandstone formations whittled by the elements over centuries.
