Located in the south of Salar de Uyuni, as far as the borders of Chile and Argentina, lies the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Andean Fauna. The beautiful area consists of two high mountain ranges and lakes, which are separated by a shrub-covered Altiplano in the centre.
Founded in 1973, the wildlife reserve spans over 714 hectares and boats the nesting grounds of flamingos and other birds. The semi-desert region is home to some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in Bolivia, housing over 69 species of fauna, as well as close to 70 species of birds, the most notable being the vibrant flamingos, coots and ostrich.
