Cardamom Tented Camp is a small, low-impact eco-camp set deep in the rainforest of Botum Sakor National Park, in Cambodia’s southwest. Reached by boat along the Preak Tachan River, it offers a genuine sense of arrival, with the forest closing in around you and the pace of travel slowing almost immediately.

The camp is simple, comfortable and wonderfully atmospheric, with safari-style tents set close to the river and surrounded by dense tropical greenery. Each tent is fully enclosed and mosquito-protected, with proper beds, private bathroom facilities and enough comfort to make the wilderness experience accessible without losing its sense of adventure.

Days here are shaped around the forest and river. You might join guided jungle walks, kayak along quiet waterways, follow old poaching and logging trails now used for conservation, or head out by boat in the evening to listen for nocturnal wildlife. Sightings can’t be guaranteed, but the area is home to remarkable biodiversity, including hornbills, macaques, gibbons, otters and, more rarely, larger mammals such as elephants and clouded leopards.

One of the most appealing aspects of Cardamom Tented Camp is its conservation purpose. Stays help support protection of the surrounding forest, with guests able to learn about ranger work, camera traps and the challenges of preserving one of mainland Southeast Asia’s most important wild landscapes.

This is not a luxury lodge in the polished sense, and that’s part of its character. It’s best suited to travellers who enjoy nature, quiet, conservation and a touch of adventure, with comfortable tents, hearty meals and an unusually strong connection to place.
