Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Whitehaven Beach covers a stretch of seven kilometers. Protected by the Whitsunday Islands National Park, this beach is known as one of the world's most beautiful and unspoiled beaches. The sand of this famous beach consists of 98 percent pure white silica, giving it its unusual luminescent colour. The sand is also very fine and does not retain heat, making it comfortable to walk barefoot on a hot day. Camping is available in the vine forest and eucalyptus woodland behind the beach.
