The Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve is situated 4 km north of the Alice Springs town Centre along Herbert Heritage Drive off the Stuart Highway, or a short walk or cycle along the sealed path following the Todd River (known as the Riverside Walk).
This is the best-preserved station along the Overland Telegraph Line and is one of the original sites of European settlement in the township of Stuart, later renamed Alice Springs, established in 1872.
The reserve grounds are a relaxing spot to have a picnic under the gum trees and are an easy drive or bike ride from town. Visitors can also try one of the mountain bike trails that start from the station and pass through stunning Central Australian landscapes. There are also a number of short walks in the reserve and Section One of the Larapinta Trail begins here.
