Shiba Park is the oldest public park in Japan and was officially designated as such in 1873. Parts of the park as it is today were once the Edo-period Okubo clan garden.

The park surrounds the Zojoji Temple and the Tokyo Tower and is also home to the ancient Maruyama burial mound. The mound is one of the biggest in Tokyo, but really quite hard to distinguish from the natural landscape as it is simply a mound covered with cherry trees. Nothing is known of its history.

The park has a number of lawns where people can relax and enjoy the fresh air and there are also exercise machines where people can work out.
