The tiny town of Isinlivi is set high up in the Andean mountains of Ecuador and lies on the stunning, wild Quilotoa Loop and Quilotoa Traverse trails. The village is not as cold at night as some of the others along the trails, due to its low elevation. Surrounded by enthralling vistas of the mist-cloaked mountains, the serene getaway town is best known for its hiking and horse-riding opportunities, especially from Sigchos (11 kilometres away) or Chugchilan (12.5 kilometres away). Make sure to visit the fascinating ancient pre-Incan hill fortresses. Isinlivi also serves as a good base for visiting Latacunga. There are several friendly hostels on offer.
