The dry-stone walls that support the road against the Swartberg’s precipitous mountain slopes are more than a century old, yet carry out their job as though they were just constructed. This remarkable feat of engineering is an interesting sight to behold and can be seen along the famous Swartberg Pass, which is without a doubt one of the most spectacular drives in the country, if not the world. This untarred road winds in steep zig-zags and sudden switchbacks to a summit 1 583 metres above sea level, promising awe-inspiring views throughout the drive.
