Located in Jasper Canada, Columbia Icefield is the largest in the Rocky Mountains. The icefield lies partly in the southern end of Jasper National Park, and was formed during the Illinoisan period from 238000 to 126000 BC. The Columbia Icefield is approximately 325 kilometres in area, 365 metres in depth, and receives around 7 metres of snowfall per year. Eight glaciers are fed by the icefield, these include Athabasca Glacier, Castleguard Glacier, and Columbia Glacier. Visitors are invited to take guided tours of parts of the icefield to experience its beauty. Hiking and driving paths are available, and the scenic routes are a must-see for visitors.
