Fort Namutoni, nestled in the eastern part of Etosha National Park, overlooks the King Nehale Waterhole, providing a unique opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts to observe fauna from within the camp. Additionally, it offers a scenic backdrop for sundown experiences. Originally established during Namibia's 1897 BSE epidemic, the fort was constructed by the German Schutztruppe from 1902-1903, rebuilt in 1906 after Ovambo destruction. Over time, it served various roles, including as a police post and South African army base. Designated a national monument in 1950, Fort Namutoni opened to tourists in 1957.
