Bassano del Grappa is a city located in Italy’s northeastern Veneto region. Dating back to pre-Roman times the city was founded by Bassianus in the 2nd century. The city boasts a rich history spanning the prehistoric Roman period, the middle ages and World War Two, when thousands of soldiers lost their lives trying to defend the city. It serves as an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding landscape stretching from the soaring mountains to the vast Veneto Plain. A notable landmark in Bassano del Grappa is the Ponte Degli Alpini, a covered wooden pontoon bridge designed by Andrea Palladio. While visiting the city, tourists can also explore attractions like the Castello Superiore, the church of St. John the Baptist, the Museo Civico di Bassano and the Monte di Pieta.
