Set on the west side of the Shira Plateau, Shira Camp 1 is one of the camp sites of the second leg of the journey up Mount Kilimanjaro. Climbers get to see a range of flora and fauna species with the chance of spotting the White Naped Raven.

Shira Camp 2 is one of the camp sites found on the Shira Plateau on the second leg of the trip up Mount Kilimajaro. This camp is set at the eastern edge where climbers get to view more scenery such as the view of Uhuru Peak.

The Lava Tower Camp is the start point just beneath the Tower. The camp is used by the trekkers who want to climb on Kilimanjaro over the Arrow Camp and the Western Breach. Most people using the Machame route arrive at Lava Tower Camp at lunch time. The climb of the tower needs max 1 hour. Conturn the west face of the tower and climb through a little gully. Traverse to the right over an exposed ditch. Then climb easy in south direction. After 100 meters, turn to the left, climb over leaning rocks and then easier on the ridge to the summit. The view down on the Tower Camp is amazing. The volcanic rock of the Lava Tower is easy to climb and no rope is necessary.

Barranco Camp is the third pitstop along the Machame Route climbing up Mount Kilimanjaro. This area of the mountain is semi-desert and the camp is set in a valley close to the Great Barranco Wall.

Mount Kilimanjaro climbers would approach Barafu camp at about the 5th day of the journey. The word 'barafu' is the Swahili word for 'ice', which refers to the cold climate at this altitude.

Mweka Camp is the final campsite on the journey up Mount Kilimanjaro. Climbers would arrive here after a 7 hour hike from Summit Uhuru Peak.

Millenium Camp is located on a ridge on the base of the southeastern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The unique feature of the site is the transparent roofed toilet facilities. The only other structure is a wooden Rangers cabin used to register climbers checking in and out of the camp. The camp is primarily used by descending climbers as an overnight/rest stop.
