Cape Grace | Cape Town

The Cape Grace has something of the atmosphere of a 'country house' hotel, yet it's situated on a private quay overlooking the yacht marina in Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Signal restaurant is a vibrant combination of friendly, seamless service, relaxed atmosphere and culinary flair, reflecting a modern South African influence. Bascule Whisky Bar and Wine Cellar on the water's edge provides the ideal setting in which to sample the largest collection of whiskies in the Southern Hemisphere. Other facilities include a well-stocked library, an enticing African-influenced Spa, brand new gym and a heated outdoor pool. Special services are offered to all guests such as personalised picnic baskets for an afternoon on the beach and romantic special touches for honeymoon couples. Well-appointed and elegant, the 120 spacious rooms and suites have French doors inviting the mountain and maritime views in; as well as sitting area, walk-in dressing room, air-conditioning, TV, telephone, Internet access and minibar. The impeccable, yet friendly, service and refined taste throughout the hotel make the Cape Grace the discerning choice.

La Residence | Franschhoek

Designed along the lines of a French country house, La Residence and The Villas at La Residence is situated on its own private wine and olive estate deep in the Franschhoek Valley. Expansive terraces offer marvellous opportunities to relax and admire the wraparound vineyard and mountain views.

La Residence exudes an opulent ambiance combined with seclusion. Yes it's not inexpensive, but then true luxury rarely is. As you walk in, you come into a glorious and vast double storey room with dining on the one side and sitting areas on the other side. It's impressive with magnificent flower arrangements and log fires burning.

Guests are accommodated in luxuriously appointed suites decorated with fine French antiques, exquisite Persian carpets and an eclectic mix of objets d'art. Each one is unique but all have their charms.

Outside are magnificent views of the surrounding vineyards, lovely swimming pool in the garden, Provencal garden; inside a private library, small gym and beauty room.

Service is a key component at La Residence. The in house chef creates wonderful dishes and a chauffeur is on hand for complimentary transfers into the village. You can book La Residence on a BB or a Full Board basis.

A new addition at La Residence are the Villas, situated only a few minutes from the hotel. The villas are perfect for families or friends wanting privacy at the same time as the La Residence experience. There are five villas varying from studios to three bedrooms and you can take them on a BB basis or on a Full Board basis. The décor is very similar to La Residence with the same sense of style, colour, furnishings etc. Some have their own swimming pools.

Londolozi Pioneer Camp | Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve

Londolozi Pioneer Camp, in the Sabi Sands, offers three exquisite suites where the raw splendour of the bush perfectly blends with luxurious accommodation. This is the most secluded of the Londolozi camps. Set amongst the dappled shade of 500 year old ebony trees, the three luxury suites are perched on a rise with elevated views over the bush.

It is also the most versatile of the camps. Its romantic suites are perfect for honeymoon couples and private getaways. Alternatively the suites can be converted into the ultimate exclusive use ‘bush home’ for a large family group of up to six adults and six children.

The spacious entrance-halls, are decorated with a Ralph Lauren feel. Clean lines, modern and sophisticated with floor to ceiling glass sliding panels which frame the wilderness views beyond.

Each suite has an elegant bedroom/sitting room with fireplace and a luxurious bathroom combining a classic Victorian feel with modern accents in marble and chrome. Your private veranda with plunge pool and sala is the perfect spot to relax with a book, or just enjoy the smells, sights and sounds of the surrounding bush.

However linking glass sky walkways convert these individual suites into inter-connected family units if you are taking it as a family bush home. Everything about Pioneer Camp is deeply personal and provides a romantic backdrop to the adventures of a new generation of sophisticated travellers.

The generous main living areas have a comfortable bush home feel with a pervading sense of history in keeping with the camp’s intimate feel with antiques, welcoming sofas and a wealth of memorabilia of photographs, silver, crystal and even old gramophones. There’s an interactive open plan kitchen so that you can watch the chef cook up a storm as you relax with a pre-dinner drink.

Steps lead down from these guest areas to the pool deck with the inviting lap pool and great river views as you swim off your delicious lunch. The intimate boma is the setting for elaborate lamp-lit dinners.

Londolozi Pioneer Camp has also recognised that ecotourism is only viable if it involves the inclusion of the communities living in and around the Reserve. As well as morning and afternoon game drives with professional rangers and Shangaan trackers, you can also enjoy interpretative walks through the staff village, with visits to the school and the community crafts centre. Dramatic bush breakfasts, sundowners and dinner banquets are regularly hosted by the staff of Londolozi Pioneer Camp at various scenic wilderness locations on the Reserve.

The Royal Livingstone Victoria Falls Zambia Hotel by Anantara | Livingstone (Victoria Falls)

The Royal Livingstone Hotel is an elegant 5 star hotel in an unrivalled setting overlooking the Victoria Falls in Zambia. It is actually situated within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park so that guests staying here have unlimited access to the Victoria Falls less than five minutes walk away - great for budding photographers who want to get that perfect shot of the Falls. The Royal Livingstone Hotel has a stunning riverine setting right on the Zambezi river. A splendid wooden deck affords sweeping views of the falls, ideal for cocktails at sunset.

The overwhelming ambience at the Royal Livingstone is of colonial elegance with shaded verandas, cool lounges and pervading sense of space. Why not head back in time and enjoy the Royal Livingstone's traditional High Tea with all the trimmings?

The 173 luxurious rooms, with their hand-carved mahogany furniture, have an African feel with eastern overtones. They are decorated in the earthy tones of the bush offset by crisp white linen. Each has satellite television, air-conditioning, minibar, safe, telephone and tea/coffee facilities. The en suite bathrooms have both freestanding ball & claw bath and shower. All rooms are stretched along the river bank and each has a balcony or patio with views of the mature acacia trees, lawns and Zambezi River. The corner rooms, now at a small price premium, have the best views not unsurprisingly.

The Royal Livingstone has a superb, albeit rather expensive, restaurant which combines old-world formality with contemporary sophistication or you can opt for slightly more relaxed dining on the veranda where cool river breezes offer welcome relief from the African heat. Special dinners are offered for honeymooners. Breakfast and lunch are usually taken outside overlooking the manicured lawns and the Zambezi river. Other facilities at the Royal Livingstone include a large pool (which seems almost in the Zambezi) and pool bar. There are a range of excursions which can be booked by the hotel including sunset boat cruises, local Zambian village tours, game drives, helicopter flips and various adventure options.
