Machangulo Beach Lodge | Santa Maria

Machangulo Beach Lodge, in the South of Mozambique, approximately a 90 minute boat trip from the capital Maputo, offers blissful barefoot luxury.

Untouched African white sandy beaches, untamed nature and luxurious service come together to create extraordinary holiday experiences. Situated in a truly unique location on a beautiful secluded peninsula it is the most easily accessible lodge in Mozambique with a plethora of activities for the whole family. The lodge features 17 luxurious rooms, a fully equipped activity centre and plenty of amazing spots to enjoy the unique views of the Indian Ocean and Inhaca Island. Machangulo Beach Lodge is surrounded by 5 marine and nature reserves making this is a unique African beach paradise.

Machangulo specialises in rest and relaxation - picnics, walks and drinks on deserted beaches, but the following will also keep its guests busy:

  • A Spa with incredible views and authentic treatments
  • The best and most accessible snorkelling on the Southern African shoreline, incredible house reefs
  • A full PADI SCUBA dive centre with full dive equipment and boats available
  • World class fishing, from extreme big game action, to fishing for first timers
  • Easy to access kayaking and stand-up paddle (SUP) boarding in great locations such as the Mangrove Estuaries
  • Sailing Dhow (local sailing boats) adventures including romantic sunset cruises
  • Spectacular birding destination
  • Guided cultural tours of Santa Maria Village and Inhaca Island
  • Pansy Island and sandbank tours

Please note that the boat transfers to and from Machangulo are tide-dependent. Therefore tide times need to be confirmed before flights and other transfer arrangements are booked. Transfers can be scheduled at the time of reservation, as accurate calendars are available about 18 months ahead of arrival.

There is only one boat departure from the lodge to Maputo Marina (generally at 10.30 a.m.) and one boat departure from the Maputo Marina back to Machangulo (generally at 13.30 p.m.) per day. These times can however change, requiring an earlier or later transfer.

As a rule of thumb: Guests should book a morning arrival flight and late afternoon departure flight.

It is important that all guests are on time for transfers and should arrive 30 minutes before departure.

The Maputo Bay is protected from big ocean waves, but wind can create mist, therefore a light rain jacket can be handy.

Upon arrival at the lodge the boat will stop in shallow water and guests will be required to disembark into ankle deep water. (ITT)
