Jacana Camp is situated about 25km west of Mombo, outside the Moremi Game reserve on the Jao Reserve of 60 000 hectares. The camp is water-based and set in a beautiful area of Botswana's Okavango Delta.
Jacana Camp accommodates a maximum of ten guests in five deluxe meru-style tents. The tents, set on raised wooden decks are tastefully decorated, fitted with a fan and comfortable furnishings. Large sliding doors opens onto the veranda featuring a view over the floodplains. En suite bathrooms include an indoor shower and toilet, as well as a private outdoor shower with an open air free standing bath.
The main area is a two-storey building with a mezzanine level, the bottom floor includes a lounge flowing onto the main deck, which paths to the pool, jetty and fire deck. The curio shop is on the bottom floor facing an open lounge area. The mezzanine level houses the bar, which leads upstairs to the dining room and lounge with large folding stack doors that overlook the floodplain.
The Okavango's flood levels fluctuate throughout the year and thus the focus of activities varies with the timing of your visit. Generally, activities are water-based and include fishing (basic equipment is provided by the camp), boating trips in the waterways to the east of the camp and water game viewing in a mokoro which are both seasonal (traditional dugout canoe). Depending on water levels, game drives and night drives might be available as the floodwaters recede from September to May (timing approximate).
Airstrip Transfer Time:
In dry season - 45 minutes by road
Please note that in the wet season or during the annual floods the roads can flood in which case you can expect a 15 minute road transfer and a 45 minute boat transfer.
