Kaingo Camp is in situated on the Luangwa River just to the north of the Nsefu area (approximately 2 hours from the Mfuwe area). The atmosphere is relaxed, the welcome is warm and the guiding impeccable at this owner-managed camp. Derek and Jules Shenton operate Shenton Safaris including Kaingo and its sister camp Mwamba.
As regards accommodation and facilities at Kaingo Camp, there are 6 chalets, 2 of which are classified as honeymoon chalets with a double bed and open skylight to watch the stars. Five of the chalets are stone and thatch and the remaining is reed and thatch and four of the chalets have outdoor baths. The chalets all have en-suite bathrooms with a shower, twin or double beds with mosquito nets, African style furnishing and cool slate floors. Each chalet has large mesh windows to take advantage of the river views from camp and lighting is by solar power to reduce any noise interference of the enveloping wilderness.
The main lodge area is fairly informal with an open dining and lounge area featuring a solid lead wood bar and deck area that overlooks the Luangwa River.
Kaingo Camp offers a wide range of activities and the guiding at Shenton Safaris is second to none with Derek Shenton leading a great team of guides. Shenton Safaris has a policy of 3 activities per day, with the middle activity being game viewing from one of the nearby game viewing hides designed by Derek which allow for brilliant yet safe photographic opportunities. The varied terrain around camp includes the picturesque Fish Eagle lagoon, one of the largest ebony forests in the Park, and the spectacular Lion Plain, birdlife and game viewing is excellent. The area is ideal walking country (with an experienced guide and armed ZAWA game scout) and there is a network of carefully planned, low impact roads providing excellent coverage of this game-rich terrain. It is also an option to walk to Kaingo’s sister Mwamba Camp.
