Mwamba is a traditional style bush camp situated in the heartland of South Luangwa on the Mwamba River, a tributary of the Luangwa River, to the west of its sister Kaingo Camp.
The maximum occupancy is only six guests accommodated in three reed chalets with open-air en-suite ‘bush’ bathrooms. The chalets each have two open skylights above the bed which creates light and allows guests to sleep under the stars whilst in the safety and comfort of a room with a protective mosquito net overhead.
The main camp enjoys shady views of perennial water-holes, both of which have hides perched over them for incredible photographic opportunities. The lounge and dining area is open air under the shade of some tall ebony trees overlooking the waterhole, the style is natural with sand floors underfoot and all lighting by candle or paraffin lamps.
The lodge offers a number of different activities including game drives and night drives in the national park, guided walks and walking trails from Kaingo Camp. Shenton Safaris has a policy of 3 activities per day, with the middle activity being game viewing from one of the nearby game viewing hides designed by Derek which allow for brilliant yet safe photographic opportunities. The varied terrain around camp includes the wide open plains, such as Lion Plain and Eland Plain, interspersed by shady Mopane/crocodile bark woodland with short grass, waterholes and lagoons and Combretum thickets along the Mwamba River.
Mwamba Camp is open from 1st June to 31st October.

Mwamba's tranquil chalets are authentically recreated each year, and feature woven bamboo on the exterior and interior, with a layer of matting and a screen in between to keep out insects and other elements. Each chalet is set along the banks of the dry, meandering Mwamba riverbed with comfortable, shaded verandas from which to enjoy the abundant birdlife and feeling of total serenity.
Clean and silent solar power provides each room with lighting and cooling fans for the summer months.
The ensuite, outdoor bathrooms elevate the bush experience further with double basins complemented by stunning copper tapware, beautiful live-edge mirrors, and showers tucked into the trees for a gorgeous back-to-nature feel.
When not out exploring the bush, guests can enjoy the camps famous 'Last waterhole hide'. A short walk from the camp, this productive hide is truly a wildlife enthusiasts dream spot.
