Royal Chundu Lodge, which translates as the ‘meeting place of the chief’, is an oasis of quiet relaxation and unsullied beauty on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River upstream from The Victoria Falls. Consisting of two luxury lodges, Royal Chundu commands its own private piece of the Zambezi river (15 Km’s), guarded by rapids at either side with nothing but the majestic bush land as far as the eye can see.
The lodge consists of 14 luxurious thatched villas, 10 are perched on the banks of the Zambezi, while 4 private suites with their luxury amenities are located on Katombora Island, 4 kilometers upstream from the main lodge. The Villas are exquisitely decorated, reflecting of sweet memories of comfort in the wild. The “Out of Africa” home-stay is completed by a private deck facing the awesome river.
The room facilities include, air-conditioning, lounge, private viewing deck, double bed with side tables, mosquito net, overhead fan, therapeutic glass-walled shower overlooking the river, double vanity (Only at island lodge), separate toilet, large walk-in closet with “Bulawayo Hatch”, ladies dressing table, writing desk and chair (Only at island lodge).
The lodge’s chef’s take pride in preparing dishes that mirror the rich heritage of the region and the hospitality of the local Zambian people. Guests have the option to dine indoors in true ethnic elegance, or experience open-air dining in the Chiefs boma, where they will be treated to an authentic African barbecue complemented with traditional song and dance.
Guests can enjoy, included in the rate, a daily sundowner cruise. All other Livingstone activities can be pre-booked which is recommended or booked directly at the lodge.

River Lodge is the main hub at Royal Chundu and the larger of the two lodges. There are 10 magnificent and spacious river-front suites at River Lodge. The entire lodge looks out onto the mighty Zambezi creating a spectacular and dramatic setting with the Matetsi Private Game Reserve on the opposite side of the river. Each suite has a double shower, air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito nets, a king-size bed and a generous deck with excellent views of the surroundings.
Island Lodge is the more private and exclusive of the two lodges at Royal Chundu. Located on Katambura private island, the lodge is surrounded by gentle river channels and dotted with Baobabs and two thousand year old Jackalberry trees. There are four magnificent villas at Island Lodge. Each villa has a spectacular deck, a large open-air bath, a glass-walled double shower as well as air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito net and a king-size, extra-length bed.
